Collect spare change

Keep a jar handy where you can put in your loose change. Check your drawers and the couch for any pence lying around. Every few months you can use the collected loose change to pay for your groceries.

Paper napkins can cost a lot of money because they are only to be used once. Switch to all-cotton table napkins, they are much nicer than paper and they can be washed clean and used again and again. You can purchase them in a variety of colors and patterns and they don’t cost a lot of money. And because they are made of cotton and not of linen, there is no need to iron.

Shop at the right time of the year

There is a technique for shopping if you want to save a considerable amount of money. It can be very exciting to buy things that are in season but shopping out of season will slash prices. If you are buying in anticipation of what is next, you are paying maximum retail price. However, if you shop for something that is not happening, like buying summer dresses during autumn, you will get a much better price. It can be weird to purchase a jacket when it is scorching hot, but you will have cool cash.

Keep an active shopping list

A good sum of money goes to buying food. How often do you go to the grocery to buy things you may think you need and not things you really do need? Put a magnetic shopping list on the fridge and when you run out of something, make sure that you jot it down. Instead of shopping for a little bit each day, you should make the best use of your time by going to the grocery once a week so you can also save on gas.

Cook in bulk and say goodbye to drive-thru

Make a meal plan of what you want to eat for the next week and do a bunch of bulk cooking during the weekend. Put them in containers and into the freezer, so that you will be able to easily reheat them for dinner or pack them for lunch. There are various casseroles and recipes that freeze quite well and reheat in no time. Not only will you get to skip fast food expenses, but you will also be able to eat your own healthier cooking too.

Try generic

Although not all things generic taste as great as branded products, it doesn’t mean that you should still spend a lot of money on branded products. You can save a lot of money when you buy store brand pantry staples such as breakfast, medications, canned ingredients and more. Always go for generic unless you have a valid reason not to.
